Water control, crawl spaces and radon
Sump systems and radon systems end up in the same conversation more often than people expect, because they share the same hole in the floor. An open sump pit is a direct opening into the sub-slab, so on any house that has one, sealing it with a gasketed airtight lid is part of installing a radon mitigation system rather than an optional extra. A sealed lid does not stop the pump working - the discharge line and any drain tile pass through it.
That relationship cuts the other way too. Because a sump pit connects directly to the drain tile around the footing, it can be an excellent suction point for a mitigation system, which sometimes means one excavation serves both purposes.
If the space you are protecting is a crawl rather than a basement, water control and vapour barrier sealing and insulation belong in the same plan. And whichever applies, it is worth knowing your radon level first - a flat-rate radon test costs little and changes how the rest of the work should be sequenced. We handle both across Colorado Springs and El Paso County.
