Sub-slab depressurization design
The same principle as radon mitigation: hold the space beneath the slab at lower pressure so vapour leaves by pipe rather than through the floor.
Vapour barrier installation
Chemically appropriate membrane where the design calls for a barrier as well as active depressurization.
Verification and ongoing monitoring points
Systems built so performance can be demonstrated over time, not just on the day of commissioning.

The same pathway, a different contaminant
Vapor intrusion and radon are the same building-science problem wearing different clothes. A structure sits at slightly lower pressure than the ground beneath it, and whatever is in that ground as a gas gets drawn upward through cracks, joints and penetrations in the lowest level. With radon the gas is radiological and naturally occurring. With vapor intrusion it is chemical and it is there because something was spilled, stored or manufactured.
Because the pathway is the same, the control is the same: sub-slab depressurization, sealed penetrations, a vented system, sometimes a barrier membrane chosen for chemical compatibility rather than just moisture. The engineering that makes a commercial radon system work is the engineering that makes a vapour intrusion system work.
What is not the same is the scope of responsibility. Identifying a contaminant and delineating its extent is an environmental consultant's work, and their assessment is what a mitigation design is built from. We install, commission and verify the system that controls the pathway — and where the concern turns out to be ordinary soil gas after all, radon measurement is the cheaper place to start.
